I’m honored to share this classic Rosehill Manor Wedding! But first, I’m going to tell you a little bit about Lili and Ken.
Lili and Ken got married at the lovely Rosehill Manor in Leesburg, Virginia on June 1st, 2019. Ken and Lili were both teachers when they met. Fast forward a couple of years and Ken proposed at the DC Zoo on their two year anniversary. They also have a precious little boy named Beau who was a special part of their wedding day!
The couple got married at the Rosehill Manor which is an elegant, timeless, and classic wedding venue. Beautiful columns greeted the wedding party, but I have to say that the entire estate is just gorgeous and gives couples lots of options for shooting. In the main reception area, there shone a lovely chandelier and the large floor to ceiling windows ushered in generous light for flawless photos.
Insider Tip: The pergola in the back of the manor reminds me of a secret sanctuary where there’s luscious green space, perfect for bride and groom portraits!
The couple’s wedding theme colors were light yellow, pink, and rose gold. As for the fellas, they donned grey suits. Everything in the details spoke to a romantic, classic feel: white hydrangeas and candles as centerpieces, bold and beautiful gold charger plates, and lovely pink linens to tie everything together.
The getting ready space was perfect for shooting the bride with her mom and bridal party. Neutral colors as a calming backdrop, details of the architecture like the wainscoting, wide baseboards, and original hardwood floors… These timeless and elegant details complimented the bride and invited us into her love story.
Insider tip: When choosing a wedding venue, you will want to look for a bridal getting ready suite with light or neutral colors in the room, large windows, a large mirror, clean lines, and rooms where there is little clutter. The portraits of the bride with her mom and the wedding party are some of the most memorable images of the day. Thus, the getting ready room provides the perfect backdrop with the power to make or break the magic of the moment!
The bride wore a beautiful headpiece and a lovely veil that were gorgeous and fun to shoot. Her dress was ivory with a hint of blush and had crystal beads and lovely buttons. When I saw the dress on Lili I knew it was beyond perfect for her! It was so beautifully feminine and flattering. The bridesmaids’ dresses were blush, which tied together with the florals and wedding colors.
At the risk of sounding over the top about this venue, I have to share how much I love this place! If you don’t know me, you don’t know that when I was a child, my mom told me once that I was born in the wrong era! HAHA! What she meant was that I always had an appreciation for all things vintage. While my generation was sporting bold neon colors, I only wanted to wear soft, frilly fabrics and petal-pink, peach, pastel colors. Alas! True “femme” and “vintage” are still my jam! So that is why this venue with this bride’s vision struck a romantic chord with me!
The bride deserves much credit for the vision she created and executed on her wedding day (with the help of her wedding planner – Caitlin Chitty), but we don’t want to miss props to groom! He looked sharp in his grey suit and made-for-his-wedding-day Nike’s. The couple incorporated some fun “wrestling” poses in their wedding couples’ images which were perfect for them (Ken is a wrestling coach). And I will never forget how -no matter what was going on or how hot it was (and it was smokin’ hot!), Ken always shared a smile or laugh with someone!
After all the getting ready shots were complete, we were set for a first look on the balcony of Rosehill Manor, a view that spans the entire property! The couple included Beau for this special moment and talk about #allthefeels. My shooting assistant carefully captured the moment from the adjacent window as we tag-teamed photography coverage of this once in a lifetime moment.
Insider Tip: Did you know that most of my couples include a “first look or equivalent” in their timeline? Typically, with a “first look,” couples will receive about 80-120 more images in their wedding day final gallery from me! Let’s chat about options!
I loved shooting Ken and Lili’s ceremony out by the pergola! Right on cue, the sun shone through the pergola and cast a heavenly glow on the bride during the ceremony. I enjoyed capturing the expressions of the bride, the groom and members of the wedding party. There were miles of smiles, deep belly laughs, a few tears and hearts full of admiration for the wedding couple on their special day!
It is probably no surprise that I loved the opportunity to capture the bride and groom’s photos – just the two of them. But in addition to those images, there is one image from the wedding day that takes the cake! The moment when the bride held her veil while the sun shone through it and cast an ethereal glow on Lili. The bride was enveloped in so much love, light, and warmth. She just radiated love; I love that. And I love to capture moments just like this on film! #swoon
Further, in the backspace of the Manor, there’s a secret sanctuary that begged for a dancing bride. So I asked the bride if she would do a little jig for me! I love these pictures of Lili because it shows her free spirit and joyful heart. There is nothing like capturing pure elation and a soul so in love.
As always, I enjoyed shooting the couple’s wedding details. And of course, the cake and the dance hall was wonderful. Everybody had a grand ‘ole time.
So very happy for Lili and Ken and their beautiful family. I am glad that I was able to shoot this particular wedding on film in addition to my digital camera. There’s a whole different feel to a film image, a surreal feeling that comes from added texture, depth, colors, dimension and the skin tones that glow. Film plus timeless venue equals an elegant love story every time.
Lili, Ken, and Beau! It was a joy to meet you all! Thank you for trusting me with your special day! I am wishing you the very best in marriage, family, career, and life! I hope that you will keep me posted and please don’t be strangers! Also, I hope you all have a seamless transition to a new school year!
