As it is high engagement season, I thought I would write a short blog post to promote venue wins and usher in the wedding contracts for 2019! This is certainly an exciting time with prospective brides and grooms deciding on their ideal venue! We can partner together during this planning period— for the win!
Here are a few ideas to consider!
Partner with trusted photographer(s) and offer an engagement photo session give away! This can be simple to execute either online on social media and through your newsletter list and/or list of recent guests as well as using the Photographer’s Social Network. Prospective couples often share the word and who wouldn’t want (free) epic photos at your venue!?
Go Live for your open houses! Using social media, promote and cover your open houses. This may be strategic and may help a couple decide to come make that appointment in person if they were not able to attend your open houses initially. Partnering with cake artists, florists, and caterers is also a great option as everyone pulls their social network and resources into the event.
Stay active on Social Media – Hosting Q&A, behind the scenes videos of events, and couples reviews/feedback can be powerful marketing tools. And to follow on with this idea, having an “About Us” section on your website with recent professional photos, down-to-earth bio’s that folks can relate to, and having an option for newsletters or a blog link is important. Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest links with the VERY BEST of photographer’s photos is also key!
Consider co-hosting an in-person or live over social media mini-workshop about maximizing the wedding day investment. Stunning wedding photography is fabulous for the client, but also beneficial for the venue. This is why it is important for guidance to be offered to couples as they plan their wedding day- maximizing light and their contracted coverage time. In the end, amazing images are captured during ideal lighting conditions and everyone will be over the moon about them… * or shall I say, over the sun? (hmmmmm).
Now, this last point I have to add from an outsider looking in and as an individual in the role of a photographer. I shot nearly 30 weddings in 2018, and I don’t think I visited any one venue more than once in the year. But in that time two wedding venues stood out to me, but on different ends of the spectrum as far as the client experience goes. Let me start with the positive. While working at a Maryland based family run venue, I noticed their motto, ” Our family treats you like family.” Here is the catch – It wasn’t just a Motto that was on their website. It was an action that was carried out in such an exceptional way that I thought, I would tell every engaged couple I know to check out this venue. It was the simple things like having water for us on a near 100F afternoon or having golf carts ready for transport, but most of all it was a mindset of service- that all of us are here as a family to support this couple and their family. Eager to serve, their joy was contagious! (* and earned them a prestigious award as top-rated venue for Maryland by the way!).
That said, and in the spirit of remaining positive, I will not go into detail about what happened at the other Maryland venue, but I’ll sum it up by saying, unfortunately, it was a “different” experience… In the end, what I concluded in the last 2 years of shooting weddings is this- venues that take care of vendors empower vendors to take care of the couples, which in turn become couples that recommend your venue. I will never forget how grateful I felt to be in the company of a “family”-run venue” for my sweet friend’s wedding.
I would love to connect and help support your goals for 2019! Through my “job” in the local area I’ve gained so much- experience, friendships in the industry, and creative collaboration is always a win in my book! Let’s connect and get the momentum going for your venue in 2019!
